LOOKING AFTER YOUR EXTENSIONS
Here is all you need to know about looking after and maintaining your new hair extensions.
Your hair is an investment, and we want to help you look after it and get the best out of them.
After all a good hair day is a GREAT day!
We do our very best to source the most beautiful hair, so it's reasonably easy to maintain, but here is all you need to know...
1
Brushing
Always use your tangle teezer to brush out your bonds. We recommend the Ultimate professional styler as it has longer and slightly firmer bristles that thoroughly detangle your new, thicker tresses, whilst being gentle enough to not snag or pull.
Always brush from the bottom and work your way up. Section your hair when brushing, especially if it is thick, this will help to ensure you are brushing the roots all the way through.
Do make sure you brush the roots and brush over your bonds. Your dead hair that usually falls out will still fall out but will now get trapped in the bonds. To ensure that the dead hairs don’t start tangling together causing your bonds to join its really important to make sure you brush the roots. Be gentle but thorough.
Gently run your fingers through your bonds- After around month or so your bonds will have started to grow down and you'll have more dead hair trapped in the bond, so after washing and drying, gently use your fingers to feel at the roots and ensure they are all still separate. If some have started to tangle together, just give them a gentle pull apart to separate them.
2
Shampoo
Make sure to brush through and detangle before washing.
Shampoo should be used all over to cleanse your hair and keep your scalp free from excess oils that can affect the bonds. Shampooing twice allows your hair to be cleansed and then for your hair to receive the benefits of the conditioner
Use the balls of your fingers to gently but thoroughly massage shampoo through your scalp area. It’s important not to scrub too hard at your scalp or be too rough around the bonds as your hair is at its most vulnerable when wet.
Then finger comb the shampoo through the length of your hair. You can also use your tangle teezer in you prefer, again being gentle.
Always wash your hair upright. As tempting as it may be to put your head over the bath to wash, it's not the best idea as it can cause tangling and put excess strain on the bonds.
TOP TIP: TOP WASH! If you feel your hair needs a refresh, but you aren't ready to wash it all... you can just separate the layer of your hair at the top that covers your extensions and wash just this section. It's our little cheat code for helping your hair to look freshly washed.
3
Conditioner
Invest in a good, high quality conditioner. Conditioner is one of the most important steps in looking after your hair extensions and keeping them long, healthy and thick. So ensuring you're using a quality product is vital. If you need any recommendations based on your hair type just drop us a message!
Conditioner should only be applied from mid length to ends. NEVER apply to the roots or bonds. If you have a weft, this is less crucial but even for your own hair health, it’s not advised to put conditioner on the roots of your hair, it can also leave your hair looking flat. With Keratin bonds, they are fitted using an organic keratin, which can break down when exposed to oils, so it is important to keep conditioner away from bonds. Conditioner expands when wet, so when applying, leave a reasonable distance to allow for this.
Leave your conditioner on AT LEAST 10 minutes in order to feed your extensions. Your own hair gets its nutrients from you to keep it healthy, but the extensions get their nutrients from the conditioner so its important to leave it on for long enough for the hair to soak up all the goodness and get the benefits.
Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and once you think all the conditioner is out… rinse again (just to be sure!)
For an extra boost you can finish of your hair by rinsing with cool water to seal the cuticles.
4
Drying
Gently pat dry with a towel and don’t scrub to remove excess water.
All of the hair we fit for our hair extensions can be left to air dry naturally and will still dry beautifully.
Many of our clients say they like to leave their extensions to dry naturally and then finish it off with a hairdryer. This can help to manage frizz and minimise heat damage to both your hair and the extensions, whilst reducing your active drying time. All of the hair we fit for our hair extensions can be left to air dry naturally and will still dry beautifully.
Use your hairdryer on a medium heat, trying not to have to too hot.
If using a heat protector that sprays, spray it into your hand first and then massage through the hair, rather than spraying directly onto your hair, to reduce the chance of exposure to your bonds.
Never go to bed with your hair wet. At the very least, make sure the roots/bonds are thoroughly dry before sleeping.
Your new extensions are likely to take a whilst longer than you’re used too to wash and dry, so we advise not to wash when you’re in a rush.
TOP TIP… swap out your towel for a cotton t-shirt, this creates less friction and helps your hair dry smoothly, also reducing the chance of breakage.

Sleeping
Don’t leave your hair loose to sleep with, you can tie it in a messy bun, pop it in plaits or wear your sexiest satin bonnet. Many of our clients have been using and loving heatless curlers also!
Silk pillowcases are ideal (and good for your skin too) to reduce friction on your hair and decrease the risk of any damage.
4
Styling
Try to minimise straightening. Once you’ve washed and dried your hair, if you straighten it, it shouldn’t need doing again until it’s ready to be washed. If you feel it needs a refresh you can try using your hairdryer on a higher heat to just smooth it out.
When straightening, do one steady pass with the straighteners, rather than going over and over as this can be more damaging.
Don’t curl it on the day you wash it if you want your curls to last, curls tend to last a lot longer on hair that hasn’t just been washed. If you wash it a day or two before and then curl it, your style will last all week!
Any stying products apply to your hands first and then evenly distribute through your hair, sectioning first if required. Don’t spray. Only apply product from mid length to ends.
Use serums and oils sparingly, overuse can actually make hair dryer as they can stop moisture getting into the hair. Ideally use a serum on damp hair to lock moisture in. We love serums that can double as a heat protector so you get 2 in 1!
Dry shampoo is safe to be used.
If using hair spray, spray it onto a comb first and then brush it into your hair rather than spraying directly onto hair.
